The National Football Stadium in Minsk opened on 7 June 2025. It seats 33,000 and meets UEFA Category 4 standards.

Once the Soviet Union dissolved, the Football Federation of Belarus (ABFF) was admitted to FIFA on 3 July 1992. Its first official game came on 28 October that year, against Ukraine. Membership of UEFA followed on 20 June 1993. Matches against Ukraine and Russia still carry a political charge, though neither counts as a formal rival.

The nickname is more recent than the team. "The White Wings" was adopted in August 2016 and comes from Uladzimir Karatkievich's 1977 novel The Land Beneath White Wings . The home shirt, shorts and socks are burgundy, and the goalkeeper usually wears yellow. Adidas has been the kit supplier since 2026.

The player most associated with the team is Alyaksandr Kulchy, who won 102 caps between 1996 and 2012, the most in its history. Maksim Romaschenko is the top scorer.

In 2008 the team won the Malta International Tournament. In the 2018–19 season it won Group 2 of League D in the UEFA Nations League, which earned promotion to League C.
