The town's football identity only came together on 15 June 2009, when SC Gleisdorf 1919 and ATUS Gleisdorf 1952 merged into one side rather than keep competing for the same Styrian crowd.

The new club spent its first season in the Landesliga Steiermark, then took seven years to climb out of it. The 2015/16 title finally sent Gleisdorf up to the Regionalliga for the first time, and the club didn't just survive there — it finished third the following season as a newcomer, then followed with back-to-back runner-up finishes. After the second of those, in 2017/18, Gleisdorf turned down promotion to the 2. Liga rather than take the step up.

There is an earlier trophy worth naming: in the same year the merger took effect, Gleisdorf beat Deutschlandsberger SC 4-2 to win the Styrian Cup. It stands as the club's other honour alongside the 2016 league title, a small enough haul that neither has been repeated since.

Home games are played in green and white at the Solarstadion in Gleisdorf, a ground that holds 1,500 but clears just 1,000 for matchday seating — a modest arrangement that has changed little as the club has moved up and down the table, most recently sitting 13th in Regionalliga Mitte.
