The Major Club Three-Day Plate Championship had eluded Kurunegala Youth Cricket Club until the 2025/26 season, when the side beat Chilaw Marians CC by five wickets in the final at the Surrey Grounds, Maggona. The main Major League Tournament stayed out of reach that year — Sinhalese Sports Club and Police Sports Club shared that title.

KYCC took its place in first-class cricket in 1991, facing Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club, and added List A cricket the following year before entering Twenty20 competition in 2004. The club works out of Welagedara Stadium in Kurunegala, a ground that holds around 10,000 spectators.
