Lieuvon/PPC secured a narrow victory over Rezekne with a 2:1 scoreline in the First League regular season. The match took place on August 1, 2026, in the 15th round of fixtures. They held their nerve against a visitor struggling for confidence.
K. Ilenans opened the scoring in the 31st minute, giving the hosts a lead they would need. To be fair, the visitors did not fold immediately. They found an equaliser through R. Muiznieks just after the hour mark.
Jegors Karpovs restored the advantage with a goal in the 80th minute. The momentum shifted sharply after that, though not in the way Rezekne hoped. Their captain, K. Valeniks, received a yellow card and a subsequent red card in the 82nd minute. By then, the visitors were already in trouble. That departure left the visitors with 11 men to chase the result.
Lieuvon/PPC sit in 3rd place with 45 points from 19 games. Their record stands at 14 wins, 3 draws and 2 losses. Rezekne remain in 14th spot with just 5 points. They have won 1 game, drawn 2 and lost 16 times.
The home side comes off 2 consecutive wins, including a 2:1 victory over Skanste last week. Before that run, they had suffered 3 defeats in 5 matches. This recent stability contrasts with their earlier inconsistency. And here's the thing, consistency is hard to come by at this level.
Rezekne, meanwhile, have lost 4 of their last 5 games. 1 draw against UEFC Ventspils offers little comfort in their current position. They face a difficult road ahead to climb away from the relegation zone.
