Valmiera/BSS secured a 2:1 victory over Riga FS II on Saturday in the First League's regular season round 15. The result keeps the hosts in second place while Riga FS II remain in tenth, separated by 33 points after 19 matches each. And here's the thing, the match told its story in quick succession during the first half.
Kayramani opened the scoring in the 14th minute, putting Valmiera/BSS ahead early. To be fair, the visitors were caught slightly off-guard, and the home side made the most of the opportunity. The goal gave the hosts a cushion they would need to protect.
Riga FS II responded well and equalised through Alfa Balde in the 35th minute. The away team showed character after going behind, and the equaliser shifted the momentum. Valmiera/BSS needed to raise their game again before the break.
Gleilson Lopes provided the decisive moment just seven minutes after the restart, scoring in the 42nd minute. By then, the home side had settled into a rhythm that Riga FS II struggled to match. The goal proved to be the difference, and Valmiera/BSS held on for the three points.
The victory maintains Valmiera/BSS's position in second place with 48 points from 19 games. They have won 15 matches, drawn three and lost only one. The result extends their recent good run, having won their last two league games 3:0 against Riga II and 3:0 against Skanstē.
Riga FS II remain in 10th place with 15 points from four wins and three draws. Their last outing was a 5:3 victory over Smiltene, but this defeat ends a brief period of consistency. They have lost 12 of their 19 matches this season.
