Trascandino kept their crown after a 1-0 win over Generál Velázquez in the Segunda División final on Friday night. J. Quinones opened the scoring in the twenty-fourth minute and that was enough for the home side to seal the title with a goal difference of two points over their opponents. By then the tension had built through the first half, with both teams trading yellow cards — A. Rodriguez for the visitors at twenty-six and J. Muza for the hosts thirty minutes in.
To be fair, neither side carved the other open after the break, though the visitors had more shots on target. Generál Velázquez registered four on goal to Trascandino's one, but the home keeper kept his side in it and the visitors let the tie slip. The hosts played with 49 per cent possession while the away side pushed 51, yet the match turned on moments rather than territory.
Trascandino made their first change at thirty-two, bringing on F. A. Abarca Antil, and Generál Velázquez responded at the break when A. Rodriguez came off. The visitors added yellow cards of their own — T. San Martin at forty-seven and F. Sepulveda Riveros at forty-eight — before the home side introduced J. Lorca in the sixty-first minute.
The final quarter saw a flurry of substitutions as both managers turned to the kids. J. Mella, R. Riquelme, C. Navarrete and B. Rivera all entered the action between the seventy-fourth and eightieth minutes, while M. Alfaro picked up a late booking for Generál Velázquez at ninety-plus-four. Seven changes in total, and the game settled into a comfortable rhythm for the champions.
Trascandino sit seventh in the table with eighteen points from twelve games — five wins, three draws and four defeats. Generál Velázquez are one place behind on sixteen points, having managed five victories but dropped more ground with six losses. The teams had shared a goalless draw on their previous meeting on twenty-sixth July, so this result redraws the line between them.
What matters now is that Trascandino hold the tie in their own hands — or rather, they've already won it. The away end never stopped, but the hosts' efficiency from a single shot on target told the story. And here's the thing: finals are rarely decided by possession or corners. They are decided by the moments that matter, and this time they fell the right way.
