Trasandino

Los Andes sits where the road out of Chile begins its climb into the Andes toward Mendoza. Workers on the Ferrocarril Trasandino Los Andes-Mendoza line founded Club Deportivo Trasandino on 1 April 1906.

A brief taste of the top came in 1982, when Trasandino won promotion to Primera División. By 1986 the club, then still going by the name Cobreandino, had a goalkeeper called Iván Zamorano playing up front on occasion — he finished that Primera B season as top scorer with 27 goals in 29 matches.

Home games are played at the Estadio Regional de Los Andes, opened in 1996.

What has held throughout is the connection to the railway workers who first put a team together in 1906, wanting a club of their own on the line running up into the mountains.
