Trascandino seize promotion push with victory at Concon Nacional
Trascandino moved up the Promotion Group table with a 3-1 win over Concon Nacional on Saturday evening. The match in the Segunda División saw the visitors overturn an early deficit to claim all three points. L. Vargas had given the home side a 19th-minute lead before I. Parada's brace turned the game.And here's the thing about that first half — the cards started piling up as much as the chances. M. Torres went off at 24 minutes, then L. Poza and A. Ugarte followed. By the time C. Vega received his yellow at 36 minutes, you could sense the tension building. Vargas took the lead, but the game was already getting physical.
Parada changed everything after the break. He equalised in the 47th minute and then doubled the lead just four minutes later. By then Concon Nacional had been chasing the game for a while, but they never really got back into it. The visitors kept knocking on the door and when they did, they finished clinically.
The match turned completely when G. Santelices was sent off in the 61st minute. Concon Nacional now had to defend with ten men and it showed. Trascandino had the chances to extend their advantage but settled for what they had. M. Coronado added a fourth goal in the 87th minute to kill off any remaining hopes.
Trascandino were the better side by the numbers too. They controlled 52 per cent of possession and registered five shots on target compared to four for the hosts. The home side had more attacks — 100 to 75 — but couldn't convert the extra pressure into goals. It was a case of efficiency over volume.
The result moves Trascandino closer to the top of the Promotion Group. They sit seventh with 18 points from 12 games, while Concon Nacional remain fourth on 21 points. Both sides have played the same number of matches, so there's still plenty of room for movement before the group concludes.
For Concon Nacional this was a setback after their run of mixed results. They had beaten Santiago City 4-2 in mid-July but lost to Provincial Osorno 1-0 on their most recent outing. The loss leaves them still in the hunt but with work to do to close the gap on the leaders.
Trascandino's away form has been solid enough to keep them in contention. They beat General Velásquez 1-0 earlier in August and had a clean sheet against the same side in July. This victory adds momentum to a campaign that's been building steadily.
