They named it for a place none of them had ever seen.
The club spent its early years working through the lower tiers of Chilean football, a regular fixture in Tercera División A from 2017 onward, taking a sixth-place finish and a playoff run in 2018 without breaking through.
Home games are played at Estadio Municipal de Salamanca, a ground some record locally as El Aquelarre — the witches' Sabbath — in keeping with the nickname, in a small stadium in a small town in the Coquimbo region, where a football club now plays in Chile's professional ranks for the first time in its history.
