Jesse Lingard

Warrington-born, Manchester United raised, Jesse Lingard spent more than two decades of his career tied to a single academy before it finally let him go. He joined the club at eight years old and did not make his first-team debut until 2011, a gap filled by five separate loan spells — at Leicester City, Birmingham City, Brighton and Derby County — that took him through most of the English football pyramid before he had established himself at Old Trafford.

The loan that mattered most came much later. Sent to West Ham United in 2021, already in his late twenties and short of regular football, Lingard scored nine goals in sixteen Premier League appearances, a run sharp enough that in April of that year he became the first player since Bruno Fernandes to win the competition's Player of the Month and Goal of the Month awards in the same month. It was the peak of a United career that had otherwise totalled 149 league appearances and 20 goals across eleven years at the club, plus a Youth Cup win in 2011 from his academy days.

Lingard left Manchester United in 2022 and signed for Nottingham Forest, staying a season before moving abroad for the first time, to FC Seoul in South Korea, where he made 60 appearances and scored 16 goals over two seasons. He has since joined Corinthians in Brazil.

Internationally, Lingard was capped 32 times by England between 2016 and 2021, scoring six goals, and was part of the squad that took bronze at the 2018-19 UEFA Nations League.
