Rodrigo Auzmendi

Auzmendi's first match for San Lorenzo de Almagro came days after he arrived, and he scored twice against Defensa y Justicia. By August 2026 he had 8 goals in 21 appearances for the club.

The move that brought him there was unusual. In March 2026 Querétaro F.C. acquired him from C.A. Banfield, but no money changed hands: the fee was the cancellation of a $1,000,000 debt Querétaro owed Banfield from the earlier transfer of the midfielder Martín Río. Querétaro then had no foreign player slot available for him, and he was loaned on to San Lorenzo, reported as free of charge, with reports differing over a purchase option. His time at Banfield — 22 appearances, 4 goals, 2 assists — had ended in a contractual dispute, with Auzmendi considering himself a free agent over unpaid salaries.

He came through the youth ranks at Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata, then went abroad early, to the academies of Plaza Colonia in Uruguay and FC Porto in Portugal. His professional debut came in Chile with San Marcos de Arica in May 2022; he scored 10 goals in 31 matches that season as the club won the Segunda División Profesional and went up. In the Copa Chile he once scored four in a game against Trasandino de Socoroma.

Honduras was where the goals came fastest. He joined F.C. Motagua in early 2024, playing alongside his brother Agustín, and scored 24 in 49 across all competitions, including the Copa Centroamericana, with hat-tricks against Lobos UPNFM and Génesis de Comayagua. He won the Torneo Apertura 2024 there.
