Rony

Rony arrived at Santos as one of the more expensive signings the club has made, with the transfer fee for the forward put at 18 million reais and the deal signed through to a three-year contract. At Santos he was given the number 11 shirt, a number the club describes as historic.

The move came with an obvious talking point: Neymar returned to Santos the same year, but wears number 10, so there has been no confusion between the two players sharing a shirt number. Rony himself has spoken publicly about looking forward to playing alongside Neymar.

On the pitch, the early return on the investment has been visible in front of goal. Rony currently shares the lead in the club's scoring charts with Gabigol, the pair sitting level at the top of Santos's list of marksmen this season.

Before joining Santos, Rony spent his time at Atlético Mineiro. Born in Magalhães Barata, in the north of Brazil, he has built his career as a forward, and the fee and contract length attached to his move to Santos reflect the weight the club has put behind him as a scoring option up front.
