About the player
Roney Troya came through Universidad Católica's own academy in Quito, and the club had already handed him a debut, sending him on against Independiente del Valle in August 2023.
The following year the club sent him out on loan to San Antonio FC in Ecuador's second division, where he collected nine appearances. Troya returned to Católica in 2025 ready for a bigger role.
That role duly arrived: he made 26 appearances for the first team in the 2025 season. The campaign also brought the biggest team honour of his career so far, as Universidad Católica won the Ecuadorian Cup in 2025.
Troya plays as a midfielder and favours his right foot. He remains a product of a club that has shown itself willing to fast-track its own academy graduates.
