Copa Suecia does not sound like much next to the trophies Argentine football usually celebrates, but when Atlanta won it in 1958, no small club had beaten the big ones in an official AFA tournament during the professional era.

A runner-up finish in the 1969 Copa Argentina is the closest Atlanta came to a bigger stage.

The club took shape in Villa Crespo in 1904, and its colours — yellow and blue — were lifted from the awnings of shops in the neighbourhood rather than chosen for any grander reason. The nickname Los Bohemios followed from decades without a fixed home, the team moving between borrowed grounds before settling at what is now the Estadio León Kolbowski, built in 1960 and holding 18,000.

Villa Crespo also produced the rivalry that matters most: when Chacarita Juniors set up next door in 1922, the fixture became a genuine derby, with more than 130 official meetings played since.

Elías Sanz signed the club's papers as its first president in 1904.
