The idea came from Mario "Tano" Stampone, a former player and coach who began putting a squad together in 2012. The club joined the Liga Escobarense the following year, and that March it took the field for the first time, drawing 1-1 away to Manzanares.

Home matches are played at the Estadio República de Armenia, a ground belonging to Deportivo Armenia in Ingeniero Maschwitz that holds 10,500 — Atlético Escobar has no stadium of its own and rents pitches for the fixtures that need one. The team plays in red and white, and shares its nickname, Los Escobarenses, with the people of the town itself.

The honours list is short but has filled out fast. In the 2023/24 season the club won Division B of the Liga Escobarense, promotion sealed by a goal from Osías Barreto, and by 2026 it had gone further still, taking the Torneo Regional Federal Amateur — where Dante Verón now wears the captain's armband.

In Liga Escobarense football, the fixtures that matter most are against Independiente de Escobar and Sportivo Escobar, meetings known locally as the Clásico Escobarense, or the Calle Colón derby, for the street where both rivals' grounds stand.

Ariel Sujarchuk, the mayor of Escobar, is also the club's president. On the pitch, it is Lucas Álvarez, the goalkeeper and captain, singled out as the key figure behind the run to the Regional Amateur title.
