«The Reds»
The name and the red shirt with its white diagonal sash both trace back to Avellaneda. It did not last as first built — money ran out and the club stopped functioning in 1936 — and it took until 19 September 1940 for a fresh set of neighbours, led by Pedro De Vicenzi, to start it again.
For years Independiente de Chivilcoy existed purely inside the town's own league, and its best spell there came at the end of the 1990s, when it took the Liga Chivilcoyana title four years running, from 1996 to 1999. It did not step onto a national stage until 2011, when it won the Torneo Argentino C. A decade later came the bigger jump: victory in the Torneo Regional Federal Amateur in 2021 sent the club up into the Torneo Federal A, the third tier of Argentine football, for the first time.
Copa Argentina appearances have become a regular fixture, and the club's furthest run there — the round of 32 — has come up three times, in 2017/18, 2023 and 2024. The first of those brought a tie against Argentinos Juniors, whose side that year included Alexis Mac Allister; the most recent paired Independiente with San Lorenzo. Squads have stayed largely local throughout, without a run of academy products going on to bigger clubs.
Matches are played at the Estadio Raúl Orlando Lungarzo, known to everyone in town as El Parque Rojo, opened on 25 May 1993 and holding 4,000. Since the 2021 promotion, the job at hand has been staying competitive in the Federal A.
