«El Decano»
The fixture Resistencia circles first is the one against Chaco For Ever, the derby known as the Clásico del Chaco, sometimes just the Clásico de Resistencia.
Sarmiento was founded in 1910, making it the oldest football club in Chaco province, which is where its nickname El Decano comes from. Around the ground, though, people more often call it El Aurirrojo, a name that simply describes the red shirt with its yellow stripe, worn with black shorts and socks.
Home games are played at the Estadio Centenario, which holds 25,000.
Locally the club's record is not really in dispute: 36 Liga Chaqueña titles, the most recent of them in 2023. The national record is shorter but real. Sarmiento won the Torneo Regional in 1977, a result that carried it into that year's Torneo Nacional, where it finished sixth in Group C. Decades later, in the 2014–15 season, it added the Torneo Argentino A.
In the Copa Argentina, the furthest the club has gone is the round of 16, in 2011–12, when Racing ended the run. Sarmiento now plays in the Torneo Federal A.
