The story goes that Boca Unidos never chose its colours — it was handed them. In the club's early years a shirt arrived as a gift from a club called Samuel Robinson. The city still calls the team by them: Aurirrojo.

The club was founded on 17 July 1927. Decades later, in 1942, it went through the regional Liga Correntina without a loss, and it repeated that command of the local league at the turn of the millennium, taking the Clausura in 2000, the Apertura and Clausura in 2001, and the Clausura again in 2002.

The bigger jumps came in the years that followed. In the 2006-07 season Boca Unidos went 20 matches without defeat on the way to winning the Torneo Argentino B, then beat Central Córdoba de Santiago del Estero in the final — 1-0 at home, 2-0 away — to move up a division. Two seasons later it did it again: a 1-1 draw with Patronato in the Torneo Argentino A final went to penalties, and Boca Unidos won the shoot-out 4-2, a result that sent the club into the Primera B Nacional for the first time.
