Goiânia grew as Brazil's planned capital of Goiás state, and Atlético Clube Goianiense has run its youth production out of the Campinas district since 1937. The Sub-20 side plays under that name, in the same red-and-black stripes as the first team, out of the Estádio Antônio Accioly — a ground the club itself lists at 12,089 seats after renovation, though other counts run higher.

The academy's case rests on names it produced rather than titles: Baltazar, Valdeir "The Flash", Marçal, Luís Fernando, Luciano da Rocha and Dudu came through it, and Júlio César went further than any of them, moving on to lift the 1994 World Cup with Brazil while at Flamengo.

Trophies have come in the state and regional competitions built for the category. The Sub-20 side won the Campeonato Goiano Sub-20 in 2010, beating Goiás in the final, and has taken the Copa Goiás Sub-20 twice, in 2009 and again in 2022 against the same rival at the Serrinha. In 2020, with the state championship cancelled by the pandemic, it won the Torneio FGF Sub-20 organised in its place. At national level, the side reached the Campeonato Brasileiro Sub-20's top tier before relegation to Série B in 2025.

Goiás remains the fixture that matters most, the Clássico do Equilíbrio carried down from the senior sides to their Sub-20 counterparts, and Vila Nova follows close behind in the same inherited rivalry.
