«Esmeraldino»
In the Estádio da Serrinha in July 2021, Goiás lifted the Campeonato Goiano Sub-20 for a fourth year running, a run stretching back to 2018. It was the eleventh time the club's youth side had taken that regional title, and by then the pattern was familiar.
That academy has sent players as far as Serie A and the national team. Rafael Toloi is one of several graduates whose names now carry further than the club that raised them; Danilo and Túlio Maravilha are counted among the others.
Matches against Vila Nova U20 carry the weight of the Derby do Cerrado, while games against Atlético Goianiense U20 are played as the Clássico Goiano. The Sub-20 team wears the same green and white as the first team, a shirt supporters call Esmeraldino.
