About

The Campeonato Brasileiro Sub-20 Série B operates as the second tier of Brazil’s national Under-20 football championship. Organised by the Confederação Brasileira de Futebol (CBF), the competition sits directly below the elite Série A, which features the top 20 clubs in the CBF National Club Ranking (RNC). Série B is contested by the 16 clubs ranked between 21st and 36th in the RNC, creating a national tournament determined by the CBF ranking rather than state boundaries.

Initiated in 2025 during a major restructuring of the national youth calendar, the series replaced the previous "Brasileiro de Aspirantes." The format consists of 16 teams divided into two groups of eight (Group A and Group B). The first phase is a single round-robin within each group. The top four teams from each group advance to the knockout stage (quarterfinals, semifinals, and final). In the quarterfinals, teams from one group face teams from the other.

Promotion and relegation are tied to the national ranking and league performance: the top three teams from Série B are promoted to Série A for the following season, while the bottom three teams from Série A are relegated to Série B. This structure serves as a crucial development pathway for clubs outside the traditional elite tier.

The inaugural champion in 2025 was Avaí, who defeated Vitória 3–1 in the final. In 2026, Goiás secured the title, beating Ceará 1–1 (11–10 on penalties) in the final held on July 23, 2026, in Fortaleza. Notable participants in the 2026 edition included Atlético Mineiro, Atlético Goianiense, Botafogo-SP, Brusque, Ceará, Chapecoense, CRB, Coritiba, Goiás, Internacional, Mirassol, Novorizontino, Operário-PR, Paysandu, Sport, and Vila Nova.
