The under-20s entered the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior, and in the middle of it they held São Paulo's youth team to 0-0 and won on penalties. The run ended in the quarter-finals against Corinthians, who went on to lift the trophy.

What happened next mattered more than the result. Club president Plínio David de Nês Filho turned to the kids to rebuild: 10 players from the youth ranks were promoted to the first team for the 2017 season.

Hyoran , born in Chapecó, came through between 2013 and 2016 and left for Palmeiras, where he won the Brazilian championship in 2018; he later took another title and the Copa do Brasil with Atlético Mineiro in 2021. Thiago Kosloski went to Benfica, Bernardo Zortea to Grêmio.

The youth side plays at Arena Condá , the same ground as the seniors, which holds 19,351. The club plays in green and white.

State honours have been harder to come by. Chapecoense finished runners-up in the Catarinense Sub-20 in 2013 and again in 2016, when Criciúma beat them in the final.
