Burgan's furthest run in recent years came this season, when the club reached the 2025-26 Crown Prince Cup final and lost 0-3 to Al-Arabi.
The club was formed in 2007, its name drawn from an Arabic word for lightning or a flash. The team plays in light yellow and light blue; in the early seasons that yellow ran darker.
Years in the lower tiers came first. The first league win landed in 2014, a 2-0 defeat of Al-Jahra built on Marzouk Zaki 's brace and a goal from Mohammed Kuli, and the same year brought friendly silverware in the Faraz Cup and the Shamlan Cup. Promotion to Division One followed only in 2017-18, and the debut season there closed with fourth place. Cup football gave mixed returns before this year's final. A run to the Emir Cup semi-final in 2019 ended 0-5 against Kuwait SC. A Crown Prince Cup campaign in 2015-16 stopped earlier still, beaten 0-1 by Al-Tadhamon in the preliminary round.
The local rivalry is with Khaitan SC, a fixture that started as a preseason friendly in 2014 and went 1-0 to Burgan.
Burgan play their home matches at Abdullah Al-Khalifa Stadium in Al Farwaniyah, a ground that holds 16,000.
