Khaitan

Khaitan had not reached a cup final in more than thirty years when they walked out against Kuwait SC in the 2011 Crown Prince Cup.

That earlier spell is where the club's name is actually written into Kuwaiti football. Khaitan Sporting Club was formed on 13 June 1965 in the district that gave it its name.

Between those peaks, Khaitan has spent long stretches simply trying to stay up, shuttling between divisions rather than chasing trophies. One player who came through that period went further than the club itself ever did: Muyad Al-Haddad played at the 1982 World Cup and the 1984 Asian Cup, carrying Khaitan's name onto stages the club's own results rarely reached. On the bench, Fawzi Ibrahim is the name most associated with the team, returning for two separate spells, from 1988 to 1994 and again from 2008 to 2010, long enough to see the club through some of its leaner years.

Recent cup runs have offered flashes rather than finishes — while the league form has kept Khaitan in the second tier. Home games are still played at Khaitan Stadium, a ground of 3,000 seats tucked into the same suburb the club has never left since 1965.
