Teixeirinha made his name in Brusque before he went on to become a Santa Catarina legend, and he later came back to Carlos Renaux as honorary president. The under-20 side does not have that history yet. In 2025 it reached the final of the Catarinense Sub-21, only to fall short against Tubarão.

The senior club goes back to 1913, when it started out as Sport Club Brusquense before adopting the Carlos Renaux name in 1944, and it remains the oldest active football club in Santa Catarina — hence the nickname Vovô, grandpa.

What the young side inherits more directly is the rivalry. The Clássico de Brusque, against Brusque Futebol Clube, runs through every level of the club, a legacy of the old split with Paysandu-SC that eventually formed the rival outfit in 1987.
