Rengo sits in the O'Higgins region, an agricultural town. Deportes Rengo was formalised on 18 March 1984.

The badge carries gold and sky blue, colours borrowed from the local association and the city's own representative side, and the nickname Oro y Cielo follows from them. Three ANFA amateur championships mark out the club's pre-professional era — 1986 in Valdivia, 1989 in Curicó, and 1996 on home ground in Rengo.

What changed the club's standing came in 2022, when Deportes Rengo beat Deportes Colina on penalties to reach the Segunda División for the first time. The following year, in the Copa Chile, Rengo became the only club in the competition to beat top-flight opposition, defeating Curicó Unido.
