Geoje Citizen

A mayoral pledge from 2018 turned into a football club two years later, when Geoje City put up 200 million won and the Korea Football Association added another 100 million to get a team on the pitch. Geoje Citizen FC received its establishment permit in June 2020 and was formally founded that November, entering the K4 League, the fourth tier of South Korean football, from 2021.

The early promise showed itself in 2023, when the club finished third in the K4 League regular season and reached the promotion play-offs, only to fall to Jinju Citizen. The same year brought a run to the Third Round of the FA Cup. Three years later, at the inaugural K3·K4 Championship, Geoje Citizen became the only K4 side to reach the semi-finals, a result that stands apart from a short history with no league title or cup to its name yet.

Kim Chang-dae's arrival in 2022 carried some weight: he joined having just been named to the 2021 K3 League Best 11. Song Jae-gyu took the team through its first three seasons before Song Hong-sub took over in the dugout.

Matches are played in red and white at the Geoje Sports Complex, seated for 6,566 though the ground can hold up to 15,000.

Geoje Citizen has no nickname and no fixed derby, but Jinju Citizen has become the closest thing to one — the side that beat them to promotion in 2023, and the measure the club is still set against in South Gyeongsang Province.
