The river that gave the club its current name runs past Aleksandrovac, close to Laktaši, and in 1997 the board dropped the old name, KK Potkozarje, in favour of Igokea. The club itself dated back to 1973, and the change came two decades in, once the original name had already served its purpose.

Domestically, Igokea has had little competition to worry about. The club has taken the Bosnian League title eleven times and the Bosnian Cup eleven times as well.

The high point came in the 2012–13 season, when Igokea won the ABA League regular season outright. It didn't. The Laktaši Sports Hall, home since 2010 and holding just 3,050 seats, fell well short of the 5,000 required for a B-licence, and the club competed in the EuroCup instead. Siniša Kovačević, once a player there, now manages the side he used to play for.

The m:tel sponsorship since 2021 has kept the club's finances steady, and the youth side, Student Igokea, took the Youth Basketball Champions League in 2023.
