Mazatlán FC

El Encanto rises above Mazatlán with a stated capacity of 25,000, though matchday numbers stay capped at 20,195 under Liga MX safety rules. The ground opened on 27 July 2020, and Mazatlán FC christened it that same day against Club Puebla. For years locals knew the place informally as El Kraken, until the club settled on El Encanto as the official name in October 2023.

The team itself did not grow out of the city so much as land in it. In June 2020, TV Azteca agreed to relocate its Monarcas Morelia franchise to the Pacific coast, a move pushed by the Sinaloa state government and a group of local businessmen who had already built the stadium and wanted a top-flight side to fill it. That is how Mazatlán FC skipped the lower divisions entirely and arrived straight into Liga MX.

The purple, black and white kit is meant to echo the sunsets over the bay, when the sky there sometimes turns violet. Fans call the side the Cañoneros.

Six years in, no Liga MX title or domestic cup sits in the trophy room; the wins that do count came in friendlies, the Copa del Pacífico in 2022 and 2023 and the Denso International Football Cup in 2025, where Mazatlán beat Cruz Azul in the final. Ten coaches have passed through the dugout since Francisco Palencia took the job at the club's founding in 2020, with Sergio Bueno the latest, taking over in January 2026. Maximiliano Salvezo scored 21 goals in 40 games, a return few others at the club have matched.

Mazatlán is still hunting a first major trophy.
