The 1/8 final of the 2025 Copa Venezuela ended 4-1 to Deportivo Táchira. What the club does have is the ground and the city.

That merger was announced on 12 December 2022 and confirmed on 28 January 2023. Before it, Rayo had never played a minute in the Primera División. Fidel Madronero had bought the sporting rights of Atlético Furrial in 2021, when that club withdrew from the Segunda División.

Elvis Martínez took an eighth-place finish in 2023, enough for the 2024 Copa Sudamericana, and there Rayo knocked out Deportivo La Guaira. Martínez also reached the quarter-finals of the 2024 Copa Venezuela before Javier Villafranca replaced him. There are no championships behind any of this, in the Primera or the second tier, and no Copa Venezuela.

Andrés Montero captained the side through 2024 and finished as its leading scorer with six goals in the regular stage.

Blue and yellow gave the club its nickname, Azul y Amarillo, though the home shirt is closer to sky blue. The colours go back to 2005, when Rayo Zuliano played a single season in the third tier and then stopped for a year. It came back in 2007, spent three seasons in the fourth division, and disappeared again in 2010.
