The fixture Taguatinga supporters mark first is Gama x Taguatinga, the derby against Sociedade Esportiva do Gama, another club from the Federal District around Brasília. Taguatinga are the Eagle, in blue and white, and they meet Gama on the pitch that gave them their best years.

The club began in 1974 as Pioneira Futebol Clube, formed by employees of the Viação Pioneira bus company. It won the Campeonato Brasiliense, the state championship, in its first season. In July 1975 it became Taguatinga Esporte Clube. A year later the coach was Dida, a 1958 World Cup winner with Brazil.

The 1980s and 1990s were the Golden Era. Taguatinga took the state title in 1981, then in 1989, 1991, 1992 and 1993. Zinha, who made 216 appearances, played through that period. Home was the Estádio Elmo Serejo Farias, known as Serejão and also as Boca do Jacaré.

After the 1993 title the decline came quickly. Relegation followed in 1996 and again in 1999, and with debts mounting the professional department was disbanded that year. The club came back in 2018 by merging with Clube Atlético Taguatinga, which had been founded in 1960 as Clube Atlético Colombo and renamed in 2015. The merged side took over the Taguatinga name and its history. It had won the Campeonato Brasiliense Second Division in 2015, and it went down again in 2023.

The last state title still dates from 1993, and the club has not won the top division since.
