Football is the newer part of the story. The Associação Recreativa Cultural Unidos do Cruzeiro dates from 1961 and became known as a samba school, a "goddaughter" of Portela in Rio de Janeiro, which is where the blue and white colours come from. Since 2009 it has been recognised as Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Federal District. The football department came in 1999, started by the former Gama president Agrício Braga with Wagner Marques and Paulo Goyaz.

The local derby is the "Clássico do Cruzeiro" against Cruzeiro-DF.

The name people in the neighbourhood tend to recall is the goalkeeper Sérgio Luís Lisboa de Almeida, known as "Serjão", who played for ARUC in 2003. He weighed 153 kg, and that is what he is remembered for.
