Promotion to the top flight in Croatia came for Dugo Selo the same season as a run to the national cup final. The 2024/25 title in the 1. HRL – Sjever put them into the Premijer Liga; weeks later they met RK Zagreb in the Croatian Cup final and lost 19:27.
The club traces itself to October 1955, when handball training began inside the local sports society DTO Partizan and the first match was played against a side from nearby Ivanić-Grad; in 1993 it took the name RK Dugo Selo 1955, keeping the founding year in the title.
As a goalkeeper for the Croatia national team he has since won silver at the World Championship and bronze at the European Championship, and was named the country's handballer of the year in both 2024 and 2025.
Locally the fixture that matters is against RK Sesvete, played as a derby between the two neighbouring towns, with RK Zagreb and RK Osijek standing as the bigger rivals now that Dugo Selo shares their league.
