Olimpija saw off Rubio Nu 5-0 in the Clausura third round on Saturday evening. The hosts ran out comfortable winners at home, adding to a difficult run of results that had seen them lose their last three outings before this one. Five goals from five different scorers marked a decisive evening for the seventh-placed side.
Brian Romero opened the scoring in the sixteenth minute, giving Olimpija an early lead. Rubio Nu pushed back but could not find a response before the break. Emiliano Delmas doubled the advantage just before half-time, slotting home in the forty-fifth minute plus one. The visitors had possession advantage at 52 per cent but their shots lacked precision.
And here's the thing about second halves — sometimes the game opens up after the break. Raúl Benitez made it 3-0 in the fiftieth minute, capitalising on a moment of space. C. Nunez picked up a second yellow card in the eighty-eighth minute after another booking, leaving his side with ten men. By then the result was never in doubt.
The statistics tell a familiar story. Olimpija registered seven shots on target from fourteen attempts inside the penalty area, while Rubio Nu managed only two shots on target from four inside the box. Shots accuracy of 44 per cent against 25 per cent tells you where the chances went. Possession meant little when the final ball was missing.
To be fair, Olimpija needed this result. They sat seventh with three points from three games, having lost their previous three matches including defeats to Nacional and Libertad. Rubio Nu remained twelfth with just one point from three outings, their only positive result a draw with Sportivo Ameliano.
The victory moves Olimpija off the bottom of their mini-group and ends a barren spell. Five clean sheets would have been fitting, but even with two goalkeeper saves each, the defensive work was never tested enough to showcase. The red card in the final minutes was almost an afterthought — the damage was done long before C. Nunez was shown the second yellow.
