Promotion, when it finally came in 2025, closed a gap that had run since 2008 — the last time Volendam had topped the Eerste Divisie. Seven times now the club has finished first in the second tier.

The team traces back to fishermen who founded it as Victoria on 1 June 1920. Three years later the name changed to RKSV Volendam, and the colours settled into the orange shirt and black shorts still worn today. Professional football arrived in 1955, though the current club dates properly from 1977, when the professional wing broke away and took the FC Volendam name with it.

Nobody at the club scored more than Dick Tol , whose 276 league goals still stand as the club record, built on a run that included the Eredivisie's top-scorer honour in 1961/62. Wim Jonk came through the same fishing town and went on to win the European Cup with Ajax, a path later followed into the Dutch national team by the Muhren brothers, Arnold and Gerrie, both part of the side that won Euro 88.

Domestic cups have brought less reward.
