Universidad de Chile

Those origins go back to 24 May 1927, when Internado Football Club and Club Universitario de Deportes merged into Club Deportivo Universitario, a name the university carried until 1930, when it became Club Deportivo de la Universidad de Chile. The blue, white and red of the students' colours have stayed on the shirt through every name change since.

Eighteen league titles put La U among the most decorated sides in Chile, though the run has not been a straight line: after the 2011 double, when the Apertura and Clausura both went to Santiago, the club also went through a financial collapse in 2006–2008 that ended in bankruptcy and a full restructuring before the trophies kept coming, including the Clausura in 2017. The 2011 season carried further than the domestic double — La U won the Copa Sudamericana that year, still the club's only continental title, and followed it twelve months later with a run to the Recopa Sudamericana final, lost to Santos.

Both derbies that define the club's calendar sit close to home: the Clásico Universitario against Universidad Católica, and the Superclásico against Colo-Colo.
