The reserve side of Vancouver Whitecaps FC plays its football in MLS Next Pro , and it plays it in Burnaby rather than across the water in Vancouver. Swangard Stadium, with 5,288 seats, is the home ground.

The team has gone by several names and lived in several leagues. There was a U-23 side in the PDL in the mid-2010s. Then came Whitecaps FC 2 in the USL, which reached a Western Conference final in 2016. In 2022 the second team was brought back for the new league it plays in now.

There are no trophies. The MLS Next Pro Cup has gone to Columbus Crew 2, Austin FC II, North Texas SC and New York Red Bulls II. What the fixture list does supply is Cascadia — Portland Timbers 2 and Tacoma Defiance. The reserve meetings carry no separate name.

The list of players who have worn the shirt on their way somewhere else runs long — Sam Adekugbe, Ranko Veselinović, Pedro Vite, Sebastian Berhalter among them.

One name sits above the rest. Alphonso Davies passed through the second team as a teenage midfielder before the career that followed.
