Los Andes played out a goalless draw against Acassuso in the Primera Nacional's Regular Season on Sunday night. The match ended 0:0 at the stadium with neither side able to break the deadlock. The result leaves Los Andes in 10th place with 33 points from 25 games while Acassuso remain in 18th with 22 points after 26 fixtures.
To be fair, the statistics told a story of dominance without reward. Los Andes controlled 63 per cent of possession and registered 141 attacks against Acassuso's 100. They produced five shots on target compared to two, yet failed to convert any of their chances.
And here's the thing about the turning point. S. Ortiz received a red card in the 73rd minute after collecting a second yellow, leaving Acassuso to play the final 17 minutes with ten men. The hosts pushed forward but Acassuso's defence held firm despite being short of a player.
By then, both managers had made changes to try and shift the balance. Los Andes brought on D. De Stefano and A. Gonzalez in the 62nd minute, while Acassuso responded with C. Viganoni shortly after. More changes followed, including three for Los Andes in the 77th minute when A. Hermoso, I. Grance and T. Modlin all entered the pitch.
The match grew increasingly physical as the minutes ticked away. Three yellow cards came in quick succession in the 68th minute before Ortiz's dismissal altered the complexion of the game. V. Serrano also picked up a booking in the 78th minute as tensions rose.
The draw extended a poor run for Los Andes, who have now gone five matches without a victory across all competitions. Acassuso's inability to take chances cost them despite having 11 corners to Los Andes' five.
