Ajka

The Ajkai Városi Sportcentrum holds 5,000 people — but the ground has stayed the fixed point through a history that has changed the name on the gates more than once. In 1993, relegation from the second tier ended the Ajka Hungalu SK football section, which merged with the dissolved Ajkai Bányász into a new entity, Ajkai Labdarúgó Club. In 2001 the football side split off again from the parent sports club Ajkai SE and became FC Ajka, at the same stadium under Kőris-hegy, part of the Bakony range that gave the club one of its two nicknames.

The club traces itself to 1923, when it started life as Ajkai Sportegyesület. Its honours belong almost entirely to the third division, NB III, won under a succession of names — as Ajkai Alumínium SK in 1968–69, then as Ajkai Hungalu SK and Ajkai Bányász SK across four titles between 1986 and 1992, and twice more as FC Ajka, in 2006–07 and again in 2018–19 in the Bakony group. A regional title, the Veszprém county championship, followed in 1997–98.

The best spell in the second tier came in 2011–12, when Péter Mihalecz and Bálint Gaál helped push the team to fourth place. Tamás Babatunde Soumni was the club's top scorer in 2013–14. More recently the squad has served as a step for players moving on to bigger clubs — Barna Tóth left in 2021 before a Hungary call-up, and Barnabás Nagy went from Ajka to Ferencváros. Locally, the fixtures that matter most are against Gyirmót FC Győr and FC Nagykanizsa, while the meeting with neighbouring Devecser SE is treated as a derby in its own right.

Through all the mergers and renamings, the ground in Ajka is what never moved.
