The regulations handed the place to a rival on sporting record, and the club went back to the second tier. It took another seven years to get it right: the 2009/10 play-off ended with a win over Rosario Central and a return to the Primera División after 30 years away.

The club came out of a group of friends in Buenos Aires who wanted a team of their own, and registered it on 15 March 1913. The white and black they picked gave them El Albo , the nickname that stuck, and Blanquinegro .

Their record is a record of the lower divisions. Four Primera C titles — the first two in 1946 and 1950, then a 42-year gap before 1992/93 and 2007/08 — and a single Primera B championship in 1972. Nothing at all in the top flight.

The Estadio Islas Malvinas opened in 1963 and is listed at 21,500, though the club's own archive records a permitted figure of 12,199.

The task now is the one the club has set itself repeatedly since 1972: get out of the second tier and stay out of it longer than the last time.
