Gura Humorului

The Suceava derby against CSM Bucovina Suceava carries more weight than most fixtures on Gura Humorului's calendar, but it is the meetings with CSA Steaua București that have marked the club's arrival in the top flight — two heavy defeats, 18-83 and 22-74.

Rugby returned to the town in 2018 after a gap of nearly four decades; a senior side had existed here between 1969 and 1980, reaching the first division in 1975. Its revival grew out of a junior programme at the local school sports club. Daniel Kearvell, who runs DHL Express Romania and became the club's honorary president, was among those who backed the project, alongside the City Hall and the Romanian Rugby Federation.

The team plays in black and white and is known as the Deer of Humor. Progress through the Divizia Națională — a play-off appearance in the first season, ninth place in 2022/2023 — until the 2024/2025 campaign, when Gura Humorului won the division outright with 33 points, finishing above CS Politehn Iași and CSM Galați and earning promotion to the Liga Națională. The step up arrived at speed: a debut in the SuperLiga against CS Dinamo București at the end of March 2026, followed within weeks by the loss to SCM Timișoara.

Sean Morrell holds a dual role at the club, playing while also serving as head coach, and it is around him that much of the current squad's international experience is built. The town's own contribution to the national game runs through Mihai Macovei, who came through the junior ranks here before going on to captain Romania.
