SuperLiga (Romania) 2026/27

The SuperLiga, currently operating under the sponsorship name Liga de Rugby Kaufland, stands as the premier rugby union competition in Romania. Established in 1914, it holds the distinction of being one of the oldest continuous sporting competitions in the region. The league sits at the apex of the Romanian rugby pyramid, positioned directly above the Divizia Națională de Seniori (DNS). It serves as the primary domestic title race and acts as a vital talent pool for the national team. The competition structure comprises a double round-robin regular season, followed by playoffs for the top four teams and placement matches for the remaining sides. Promotion from the DNS to the SuperLiga occurs, a pathway recently utilized by Rugby Club Gura Humorului for the 2026 season. The current participant list includes six clubs: CSM Baia Mare, Dinamo Bucuresti, SCM Timisoara, Steaua Bucuresti, Tomitanii Constanta, and Universitatea Cluj. CSA Steaua București holds the record for success in the league, having secured 24 titles. In the most recent 2024-2025 season, CSM Știința Baia Mare claimed the championship by defeating SCM USV Timișoara in the final. The league is distinct from the Cupa României, which operates as a knockout cup, and separate from European competitions. It remains the central stage for domestic rugby in Romania, governed by the Romanian Rugby Federation (FRR), which was founded between 1913 and 1915 to oversee the sport's development. The competition’s longevity is reflected in its origins, with the first championship organized by the Federation of Sports Societies of Romania (FSSR) involving Tenis Club Român and Sporting Club.
