HSG Blomberg-Lippe reached the top of the Handball-Bundesliga Frauen for the first time in the 2025/26 season, a championship the club had never taken in its previous history. It arrived a year after a runners-up finish in the EHF European League in 2025, lost to Ikast Håndbold, and a domestic cup final that same year against HB Ludwigsburg, ending 21–31. The DHB-Pokal itself has kept slipping past Blomberg-Lippe, with finals lost in 2010 and 2014 as well, though a first DHB-Supercup arrived in August 2025.

The club took shape in 1993, when the women's handball sections of TV Herrentrup and TV Blomberg merged. Herrentrup's playing licence carried over to the new side, which meant Blomberg-Lippe stepped straight into the 2. Bundesliga rather than starting from the bottom. Promotion to the top flight took until 2006, following a play-off win over SC Markranstädt, after an earlier 2. Bundesliga title in 1996.

Steffen Birkner has coached the team since 2018, long enough to see it through the climb from cup finalist to champion. Xenia Smits started her senior career at the club before moving on to Metz Handball.

Buxtehuder SV supplies the club's sharpest competitive edge, the two sides meeting often enough near the top of the table that their games are talked of as a "Verfolgerduell" rather than a fixed derby. Home matches are played at the Sporthalle an der Ulmenallee, in the Schulzentrum Blomberg, which held 900 before renovation work finished in 2022 and now holds 1,300; for the bigger nights, the club moves down the road to the PHOENIX CONTACT arena in Lemgo.
