Rosario Central spent 2025 chasing a title that had not carried the club's name since 2023, and closed the year with the Liga Profesional Argentina trophy. It sits alongside the Copa de la Liga Profesional won in 2023, the two most recent entries in a run that stretches back to four Campeonato Nacional titles across 1971, 1973, 1980 and 1986/87. The 1986/87 championship still stands apart: Rosario Central had been relegated the year before and came straight back up to win the top flight at the first attempt.

The 1971 title carries its own image. In the semi-final, Aldo Poy threw himself horizontally to head in the winning goal, remembered simply as "la palomita".

The club began as the Central Argentine Railway Athletic Club, formed by workers of the British-run Central Argentine Railway, with a Briton, Colin Calder, as its first president. Membership was limited to railway employees until the early 1900s, when the company merged with another line and the club opened up to the wider city, taking the name Club Atlético Rosario Central. The railway origin still surfaces in one of its nicknames, El Tren, alongside El Canalla.

Two academy products carry the club's name furthest. Ángel Di María made his debut at Rosario Central in 2005, went on to win Olympic gold in 2008 and the World Cup in 2022, and returned to play for the club again in 2024. The other left before him: a forward who scored 94 goals in 123 matches for Central and then won the World Cup with Argentina in 1978, taking the Golden Boot with him.

Central play at the Gigante de Arroyito, its capacity confirmed at 46,955 after a municipal inspection in March 2024, reduced to 39,657 for CONMEBOL fixtures.
