About

The AVC Women's Volleyball Continental Championship is the premier women's volleyball tournament in Asia, organized by the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC). The event underwent a significant reform in 2026, when it was rebranded and moved to even-numbered years to align with the FIVB calendar. This shift distinguishes it from the AVC Women's Volleyball Cup, a secondary competition whose winner qualifies for the Continental Championship.

The 2026 edition was standardized to 12 teams, featuring three pools of four. The top two from each pool and the two best third-placed teams advance to the quarterfinals. Qualification for this stage included automatic berths for the host nation and the defending champion. Additional spots were allocated to the AVC Women's Volleyball Cup winner and through zonal qualifiers based on FIVB World Rankings. The participating teams in the current cycle include Australia, China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Indonesia, and Iran.

Thailand is the current reigning champion, having defeated China 3–2 in the 2026 final held in Tianjin. This victory marked Thailand's first title since 2009, a result described by sources as a turning point in Asian volleyball. China remains the most successful nation in the tournament's history with 13 titles. The competition serves as the primary continental qualifier for major FIVB events, including the Olympic Games and the FIVB Women's Volleyball World Championship. It is historically distinct from its predecessor, having previously operated on a quadrennial basis before shifting to a biennial cycle.

The tournament is recognized as the highest level of competition for women's volleyball teams across the Asian continent. Its structure ensures that regional powerhouses compete for supremacy while securing places on the global stage. The format allows for a balanced group phase followed by knockout rounds, providing a clear path for teams to demonstrate their strength. The involvement of the AVC ensures that standards are maintained across all member nations.
