Kazakhstan's women reached their highest point on Asian soil in 2010, when they took bronze at the Asian Games in Guangzhou, and they came closer still to gold in the Asian Championship, finishing runners-up in Taicang in 2005 and again in Kathmandu in 2026. Between those two silvers sits a run of continental cup finishes that never quite tipped over: bronze in the AVC Cup in Almaty in 2012 and in Shenzhen in 2014, then silver in Vinh Phuc in 2016 and, more recently, in the AVC Challenge Cup in Kathmandu in 2023 and Manila in 2024.

The team traces back to the Volleyball Federation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, formed in 1992 as the country set up its own sporting institutions after independence; the federation joined the FIVB and the Asian Volleyball Confederation that same year, and the national side played its first official tournament at the 1993 Asian Women's Volleyball Championship.

There is no single home hall. Matches and training camps split between the Baluan Sholak Sports Palace in Almaty and the Alau Ice Palace in Astana, a venue able to hold close to 8,773 spectators for volleyball. The squad plays in sky blue at home and yellow away.

Sana Anarkulova captains the side from the opposite position. Darko Dobreskov coached the team from 2021 into 2025 before Askar Shalkibekov took over in May 2026. Kazakhstan measure themselves against China, Japan and Thailand at the top of the Asian game, and against neighbours Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan closer to home; outside the continent, a 2022 World Championship campaign brought defeats to Serbia and Germany.
