Imola Women

The club traces back to 1969, when Francesco Spadoni and his wife Anna Maria Loreti set it up as Polisportiva Libertas Clai. The name shifted twice more, first to Polisportiva Csi Clai Imola in 2011, then to Clai Imola Volley in 2024. Years in Serie B1, B2, C and D preceded the jump, and promotion to Serie A2 finally came for the 2024-2025 season.

Imola itself has had grander volleyball before: Famila Imola once reached Serie A2 under a different banner, before fading out after the 2003-04 season, leaving Clai as the city's remaining name in the sport. Clai Imola built its own record more slowly, through youth ranks rather than headlines.

Home games are played in front of 1,400 seats at PalaRuggi, in kit colours of light blue and blue that give the players their informal tag, le biancoblù. The club also puts on the Clai Cup, a Memorial Spadoni tournament named for its founder, though hosting it is not the same as winning it. A senior national trophy — anything at Serie A1 level or in the Coppa Italia — is still the one line missing from the club's history.
