«Lvi B»
Lvi Prague B once got within one match of a title it never got to play for. In the 2019/20 season the reserve side of VK Lvi Praha reached the final of the 1. liga playoffs, only for the pandemic to shut the competition down before the deciding tie was staged — as close as the B-team has come to lifting anything of its own.
The club traces back to 1991, when it existed as Volleyball.cz ČZU Praha before the rebrand to Lvi in 2018 folded it into the senior operation as its second string. It shares the UNYP Arena, a 3,000-seat venue in Prague's Libeň district built on the site of the old Aréna Sparta, with the first team, and wears the same grey and red. Since then the B-side has settled into mid-table life in the second tier: ninth in 2021/22, eleventh two seasons later, functional rather than fashionable.
That modesty sits oddly against what happens one floor up. The senior men's team has become the dominant force in Czech volleyball, taking the Extraliga in 2022/23 and 2024/25 and the national cup in both 2024/25 and 2025/26, while the women's side, Lvice, fights out the Prague derby with PVK Olymp. Against that backdrop, the reserve team's job is less about silverware than about supplying bodies who can survive against the men who beat VK Karlovarsko and VK Jihostroj České Budějovice in recent finals.
It is Milan Moník, the libero who captains the national team, who best explains why a place in the B-side still matters here: he is the player every young signing at Lvi is ultimately being measured against.
