Volleyball at Myre grew out of school sport. A flag marking a 50th anniversary points to 1976 as the year that beginning took shape.

For decades the club's business was local and youth volleyball around Øksneshallen in Myre, in the Vesterålen region of Nordland. That changed with the women's senior side. In 2023 the U17 team reached the final of the NM youth championship and finished second, a result that showed the pathway from the school-sport roots was producing players capable of competing nationally.

The senior team's rise followed quickly. Øksil finished third in the Eliteserien, known by its sponsor name Mizunoligaen, in the 2024/25 season, then went further in the Norwegian Championship play-offs. In January 2025 they reached the NM final for the first time in the club's history, facing TIF Viking for the title. Øksil came away with silver.
