About

The Mizunoligaen, officially the Eliteserien i volleyball for kvinner, stands as the highest tier of women's volleyball in Norway. Organized by the Norwegian Volleyball Federation (Norges Volleyballforbund), the competition traces its roots to 1973, establishing it as a long-standing fixture in the national sporting landscape.

The structure for the 2025 season features eight permanent clubs alongside one associate entity, ToppVolley Norge (TVN). TVN engages solely in the regular season, facing every permanent side. While their matches contribute to the overall points tally for the other teams, they are excluded from the playoff rankings. Each permanent club plays 15 fixtures in a double round-robin format. Points are allocated based on match outcomes: three for a straight-set win, two for a three-set victory, one for a three-set defeat, and none for a straight-set loss.

Advancement to the postseason depends on regular-season positioning. The top two sides move directly to the Final Four semifinals. Teams finishing between third and sixth place contest a best-of-two quarterfinal series, with a Golden Set determining the winner if necessary. The Final Four decides the league champion, known as the Seriemester. This title is distinct from the national championship, the Norgesmester, which is awarded through the knockout NM Cup.

Relegation impacts the bottom of the table. The permanent team that finishes eighth drops directly to the 1. divisjon. The seventh-placed side faces a two-legged playoff against the second-place finisher from the lower division. Historically, Koll IL leads the competition with 17 national titles, a record that underscores their dominance compared to other clubs in the sport.
